1. Themes

The contest is made up of six sections:

In sections A and B it is essential to establish the order in which they must be exhibited to the jury, numbering them.

A maximum of 4 photographs may be submitted in themes C, D, E and F. The technique is completely free. The same photograph may not be submitted in each theme, nor photographs submitted in previous editions.

F.I.A.P. definition of black and white (monochrome) photography

A black and white image, going from light grey (white) to very dark grey (black), is a monochrome image with different shades of grey. A black and white image toned entirely in a single colour shall be considered to be a monochrome image, which can be entered into the black and white category; this work might be reproduced in black and white in the catalogue of a photographic Salon that is under FIAP Patronage. On the other hand, a black and white image modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour, becomes a colour image (polychrome), which must be entered in the colour category; this work must be reproduced in colour in the catalogue of a photographic Salon that is under FIAP Patronage.

F.I.A.P. definition of nature photography (colour)

Nature photography documents all branches of natural history except anthropology and archaeology. This includes all aspects of the physical world, both above and below water.

Nature images should reflect the truth of the scene. A knowledgeable person must be able to identify the subject of the image and be satisfied that it is honestly presented and that no unethical practices have been used to control the subject or capture the image. Images that directly or indirectly depict any human activity that threatens the life or well-being of a living organism are not permitted.

The most important part of a nature image is the natural story it tells. High technical standards are expected and the image must appear natural.

Human-created objects and evidence of human activity are allowed in nature images only when they are a necessary part of natural history.

• Photographs of man-made hybrid plants, cultivated plants, feral animals, domesticated animals, man-made hybrid animals, and mounted or preserved zoological specimens are not permitted.
• Photographs taken in natural settings where the animal has not been harmed, in carefully managed environments such as zoos, rescue centres and ethically managed nature farms are permitted.
• Luring or controlling subjects through the use of food or sound for photographic purposes is not permitted. Situations maintained such as the provision of supplementary food due to adverse weather or other conditions beyond the control of the animal, where photography is incidental to feeding, are not included in this restriction.
• Controlling live subjects by chilling, anaesthesia or other methods that restrict their natural movement for a photograph is not permitted.

Man-made elements shall be permitted under the following circumstances:

• When they are an integral part of the natural history, such as a bird singing on a fence post, a man-made object used as nesting material or a weather phenomenon destroying a man-made structure.
• When they are a small but unavoidable part of the scene, such as an inconspicuous footprint in the background.
• Scientific tags, collars and bands are specifically permitted.

When photographing in a zoo, sanctuary or rehabilitation centre, the photographer shall be deemed to have ensured that he/she is properly accredited and in accordance with best practice.

Technical specifications

Only digital files shall be accepted. The images shall be submitted in JPG format, the maximum size shall be 3000px horizontally and no more than 2000px vertically, with a resolution of 300 ppi and no more than 2 MB. The sRGB colour space is recommended.

The authors of the winning photographs must send the organization the corresponding files containing their work, using an image resolution of 300 ppi and side greater than 60 cm, within ten days after the results are publicised, for the production of the subsequent travelling exhibition. These files shall be kept by the organization for its photographic collection, which shall be entitled to reproduce them freely for catalogues, posters, the press, articles, etc., for non-profit purposes, always quoting the name of the photographer.

Only those participants who have previously submitted these files in due time and form will be eligible for the prizes. Otherwise, the prize will be passed on to the next participant.

Participants shall certify the authorship of their work and shall be held completely responsible for the non-existence of third-party rights and for any image right claims made for the work entered in the contest.

Pictures created by artificial intelligence are not allowed in this salon. All parts of the image have to be photographed by the author who is holding the copyright of all works submitted. Offenders will be sanctioned for life.

The works of authors who do not meet all the conditions of participation and/or have not paid the registration fees will not be evaluated by the Jury.

2. Entry and submission

The image files shall only be identified with the title of the work.

3. Participation fees

The entry fee shall be €25, regardless of the number of photographs submitted, and payments can only be made by PayPal.

4. Prizes

For each one of the sections A, B, C, D, E and F:

• CEF Silver Medal
• FAF Bronze Medal
• 2 FIAP Honourable Mentions in each category.
• 2 CEF Honourable Mentions in each category.
• 2 FAF Honourable Mentions in each category.

The prize money shall be subject to the existing tax law and the legally established withholding taxes shall be applied.

5. Jury

The jury shall be made up of well-known national and international photographers, whose decision shall be final and not subject to appeal. The decision of the contest will be in person.

6. Announcement of the results

All photographers who enter the contest shall be sent an email containing information about the results, and the winning photographs and runners-up of each theme shall be publicised on the contest website.

7. Catalogue

A catalogue in PDF shall be published with the award-winning photographs and sent by email to all participants.

9. Accepting the rules

Anyone who takes part in this contest is assumed to have accepted all and each of the contest rules and the final decision of the jury, which shall not be subject to appeal. Any matter not provided for in these rules shall be decided upon by the organization.

Notes

When participants submit images or files to a Salon that is under the patronage of the FIAP, they are assumed to unconditionally accept the fact that the images submitted might be analysed by the FIAP to determine whether they do indeed comply with the FIAP regulations and definitions, even if the participant is not a member of the FIAP. The FIAP shall use any means available for this purpose, and any refusal to cooperate with the FIAP, or refusal to submit the original files, image captured by the camera, or lack of sufficient evidence, shall be penalized by the FIAP; if penalties are imposed as a result of non-compliance with FIAP regulations, the name of the participant shall be disclosed in whatever way is deemed useful to inform of the breach of the rules. EXIF data should be left intact in the files submitted to help with any possible investigation work that might have to be carried out.
